How Dedicated Hosting Functions
When we talk about web hosting servers, there are 3 principal sorts - shared web hosting servers, VPS (private virtual servers) and dedicated hosting servers. Shared hosting servers accommodate numerous clients and so the resources per user account are restricted, virtual private server plans give you more configuration freedom, but also influence other virtual servers on the hardware node if utilized unwisely, and dedicated servers give you the option to perform everything you think fit without meddling with anyone else.
Why would you need a dedicated hosting server?
Dedicated servers are traditionally much more high-priced than shared hosting servers or virtual servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is rather simple. If your firm has a resource-absorbing site, or just has very special server configuration requirements, the right option is a dedicated server. For somebody who is willing to invest in security and reliability, the higher price is of no concern. You are granted complete root access and can utilize 100% of the hosting server's system resources without anyone else availing of these system resources and interfering with your web portals.
Hardware specs
The majority of web hosting suppliers, including us at SunCloud Hosting, offer different hardware architectures you can pick from as per your needs. The hardware architectures offer different varieties of microprocessors, a different number of cores, different RAM memory and server disk drive sizes and different monthly bandwidth quotas. You can select a web hosting Control Panel, which is a convenient graphical user interface if you want to utilize the server for hosting purposes only and choose not to resort to a Secure Shell client for all the modifications you will be making. We provide three types of hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The hosting CP of your choosing
If you are a confident Linux user (our dedicated hosting web servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could administer your dedicated server via SSH exclusively. That, however, could be awkward, particularly if you decide to grant full root-level access to someone else who has less technical knowledge than yourself. This is why having hosting CP software activated is a nice idea. The Hepsia hosting CP software that we provide does not give you complete root access and is mostly appropriate for someone who runs multiple websites that absorb lots of system resources, but wants to manage the web sites, databases and mailboxes via an easy-to-use web hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting CPs, on the other hand, grant complete root-level access and have 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting packages instead of utilizing the dedicated hosting web server solely for yourself, you should select one of these two.
Web server monitoring and backup procedures
Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated hosting server and of backing it up. In case of a problem with your dedicated web hosting server, like an unresponsive Apache or a network downtime, it is useful to have some sort of monitoring system activated. Here at SunCloud Hosting the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated hosting server too. Backups are also an additional feature - the web hosting solutions provider offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could select a type of RAID that would permit you to have the same data on two disk drives as a precaution in the event of a server hard drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted access erases something unintentionally.
